The biggest screen in the house increasingly plays creator video. Television’s successor arrived from below.

The largest single shift in video is happening on the least discussed screen. Creator platforms are now, by several measures, the most-watched "channel" on actual televisions — the living-room set, the lean-back hours, the territory broadcast and streaming built their economics on.
What actually happened
The TV app quietly became the top surface for the big creator platforms, and formats followed the furniture: longer videos, higher production, episodic series, podcasts filmed like talk shows. A generation that never formed the broadcast habit brought its default screen with it into the living room.
What the numbers say
In major markets, creator platforms' share of total TV-screen viewing now rivals or exceeds the largest subscription services — a statistic that reads differently when you notice the content cost the platform almost nothing to commission. The revenue share model outsources the slate: tens of thousands of channels carry the programming risk that a network once carried alone.
The business behind the screen
Advertisers moved accordingly; the TV-screen inventory sells at television-adjacent prices with targeting television never had. For the creators, the living room changes the craft — thumbnails become title cards, episodes stretch, and the successful operations resemble small production companies with payroll, not a person with a camera.

Expect the platforms to keep dressing like television — seasons, bundles, live sport rights — and television to keep dressing like the platforms. The joke writes itself, and lands: the future of TV was TV, with the commissioning department replaced by an upload button.
